How to Pay for Your Solicitor
We appreciate that using legal services can be expensive and so we offer a variety of methods of payment.
You can “instruct us” in the traditional sense. This means you will become a client and we will estimate as accurately as possible, the likely costs for your case. We will keep you regularly informed of the costs you are incurring and will generally bill you on a monthly basis. Naturally, if your matter is dormant you won’t be incurring any costs. We will give you a detailed breakdown of the costs that you have incurred approximately every six months. Again we will try to provide you with an estimate of the costs that you are likely to incur in the following few months.
As an alternative we provide a completely different approach. You can choose a ‘pay as you go’ format. This means that you do not become a client in the traditional sense. You will deal with any correspondence and complete any forms, you may even attend Court on your own. If you would like our advice at any point, you can pay for an appointment with a qualified solicitor. Then we will give you advice with regards to the running of your case. You are in charge of your matter at all times. You will deal with the Court and your spouse and you will fill in all the necessary forms. Also, you will appear in Court or attend mediation as appropriate. It is obviously a much cheaper option. However you will not have the on-going support by email and telephone that a regular client would. You are basically on your own most of the time. If you want us, you will make an appointment for advice and you will pay for at the time on a one-off basis.
